Implant dentistry for geriatric patients: general review
Hwang Jung-Won

Abstract
The rapid growth of the elderly population will have a impact on the practice of dentistry. As implants can help improve or maintain the quality of life of senior citizens, dental implants have assumed greater importance among the geriatric population for replacement of lost teeth. The long-term success rate for elderly patients was found to be similar to the overall success rate for younger patients. There is wide viability of implant treatment in elderly patient: (1) no treatment; (2) fixed partial prostheses including single implants; (3) strategic implant placement in comprehensive RPD cases; (4) fixed full arch prostheses; (5) implant overdentures. Any treatment should be provided from the perspective of the patients. The
purpose of this article is to discuss the diversity of implant treatment in geriatric patients.
